CASSOPOLIS, Mich. - Cass County's prosecutor says a band of scrap metal thieves was no match for an off-duty police officer. And now, the leader of the band will pay a heavy metal price - up to life in prison. A Circuit Court jury only took 15 minutes on Wednesday to convict Anthony Cox, 57, of Edwardsburg of the crime. Prosecutor Victor Fitz says Cox is a fourth time habitual offender, and that's why he faces such a huge prison sentence. Cox has a criminal record of several theft-related felonies.

SOUTH BEND -- All too often, for many children, problems at school or on the streets often start at home, where kids might not always have a role model to teach them important life lessons. City leaders think it's a problem we all share, and they think it's something the community as a whole, can fix. Mayor Pete Buttigieg and other leaders on Monday announced the formation of a booster club, a formal support network, to promote existing mentoring programs, like Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Ticks are pretty bad this year, especially for dogs, according to a veterinarian who has been pulling them off pets every day for the past few weeks. “Just since it's warmed up the past couple or few weeks the number of ticks have gone up dramatically,” said Dr. Jeffrey Vogl, a veterinarian at University Park Veterinary Hospital. It's sure not what most people want to think about as the weather warms, but it's something to be aware of now that a lot of people and pets are heading outdoors to play.

NILES - Indiana and Michigan may share a border, but for people who ride motorcycles the laws make the two places feel like different worlds. Marc Milhander with Kar Club in Niles said it was evident. "When I first started seeing people park at the state line and either taking a helmet off or putting one on, it took me a while to get used to that scene," said Milhander. "It simply looked weird. " Michigan's helmet law had been on the books since the 1960s.

An Osceola woman has received a nearly three-year prison term for embezzling from her employer. Roxanna Brown, 34, a long-trusted employee of Mishawaka-based Steinhoffer Scale Co. Brown admitted to using several methods to steal the money, according to her federal guilty plea. She used company credit cards and wrote company checks to herself, falsely logging them on company books as legitimate payments to distributors and business partners.

Every kid loves coloring. Coloring requires crayons. Every parent dreads the inevitable: crayons on clothes. A quick internet search yields a variety of options to get crayon out of clothes. They all include WD-40, dish soap...and a hope and a prayer. To demonstrate, we used a pillowcase and a red crayon. We tied the pillow case up so we wouldn't ruin our dryer. In it went, on high heat. About 20 minutes later out it came. It was a very messy pillowcase and a messy dryer, too. To clean the dryer: Wipe the crayon with paper towel while it is still hot and melted.

The concept is easy: You can go grocery shopping, go to the gym or out to a nice dinner and it's all just a few feet away from where you live. Developers say these high-end apartments will change the dynamic of Toscana Park, and businesses in there can't wait to cash in on all the new tenants.

According to police, he had friends help him dispose of the body. Police are still trying to find it. And in June, Steven Clippinger was charged with murdering his brother and sister-in-law while their children were inside their Mishawaka home.
