Baugo Township firefighters were called out just before 3 a.m. Sunday to douse a small fire in a wood chip pile at VIM Recycling Inc., 29861 Old U.S. 33. A passer-by called 911, saying they could see flames coming from a pile. The fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported. In December, the Indiana Attorney General filed suit against VIM, seeking to shut down the recycling facility. The state cited multiple dumping violations in its suit. In June 2007, an explosion killed a worker and injured two others. A massive fire sparked by the explosion took several days to contain. In May 2009, another company employee was killed in an industrial accident.
