South Bend 7-Eleven clerk assaulted by pair

A 7-Eleven store clerk was assaulted by two women after she confronted them for trying to shoplift from the convenience store, police said. The assailants, both 27, were later arrested in connection with the incident. The clerk told police that she saw one of the women place items in a bag without paying for them around 2 a.m. Tuesday at a 7-Eleven on Lincoln Way West. The clerk confronted the woman in the parking lot, and took the stolen items back into the store, she said. The woman came back into the store, grabbed the stolen items, and began throwing them at the clerk, striking her several times. The clerk chased the woman into the parking lot. The woman then punched the clerk in the face and kicked her to the ground. The other woman also kicked and punched the clerk. Police arrived to find the clerk bleeding and bruised. Police later arrested the women on suspicion of battery and public intoxication. One of them was also arrested on suspicion of robbery.
