SOUTH BEND — Firefighters battled a fire at Hoosier Tank & Manufacturing on North Sheridan Street Tuesday morning. The fire broke out around 7 a.m. Traffic was restricted at Keller Street and Terminal Drive. Investigators say a fire started in the duct work where they apply finishes to the outside of the tanks. Employees tried to get it under control but it spread to the roof. Firefighters say they're used to this kind of fire, but the weather made it a little more challenging. "It's kinda tough, you gotta keep water flowing through your lines so they don't freeze up," said South Bend Fire Battalion Chief Al Kirsits. "We had to trudge through the snow to get a line through the rear door here. It makes it a little slower-going, but we're used to it. It's South Bend, you just gotta deal with it." According to fire crews, the blaze was extinguished quickly and there were no injuries reported.
