Eastbound traffic on the St. Joseph Valley Parkway has been re-opened following an early-morning accident involving a semi-truck and an abandoned vehicle. The crash happened just before 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the bypass, about one mile west of County Road 1 near the Elkhart County-St. Joseph County line. Emergency dispatchers say the semi-truck hit an abandoned vehicle. One eastbound lane of the bypass was reopened shortly after 10:30 a.m., as emergency crews continued to clean up the roadway. The semi-truck came to a stop, and when the driver started to get out he realized it was tipping over. The truck rolled over with him inside it, and leaked about 50 gallons of diesel fuel at the scene. During the closure, motorists were forced to use the Elm Road exit, according to dispatch.
