Services set for Buchanan man who died in ice fishing accident

January 20, 2010|SBT24/7 News Report

The family and friends of a 55-year-old Buchanan man are mourning his loss this week after an ice fishing accident in Michigan. Services are scheduled Wednesday for Donald A. Molica, who died late Friday afternoon following the accident. The accident happened on Clear Lake in Fabius, Mich. That’s north of Michigan 60 and just west of the town of Three Rivers in St. Joseph County. Molica was unloading his fishing shanty from his pickup truck about 4:50 p.m. when it fell, striking him in the head. Those injuries proved fatal before paramedics could arrive, Michigan State Police at White Pigeon said. Two nearby ice fishermen heard the shanty fall and ran to help, but they were unable to because of the seriousness of Molica's injuries. Molica is survived by his wife, Lee Wells Molica, as well as a son and two daughters in Buchanan. A viewing and services are planned beginning at 4 p.m. at the Hoven Funeral Home in Buchanan.
