Residents of an apartment complex near Osceola were evacuated late Wednesday after their building caught fire. The fire was first reported about 11:45 p.m. when a caller in the 30900 block of River Bend Circle said a lamp had caught fire in a unit at the Arbors at River Bend, near Ash Road and McKinley Highway. As firefighters headed to the scene, the apartment resident told dispatch that the fire was starting to spread, according to initial reports. Arriving crews asked for assistance from St. Joseph County firefighters to help battle the blaze, and the fire was brought under control shortly after firefighters arrived. Elkhart County said residents of the building units were evacuated as a precaution. There were no immediate reports of any injuries. Fire investigators have not released information on the officially determined cause of the blaze.
