Niles-area firefighters battle Pine Lake Road blaze

Crews from Niles Township were called to assist early Thursday at a house fire in nearby Cass County. The fire was reported shortly before 4 a.m. in the 3000 block of Pine Lake Road, near the intersection with Michigan 60. The home was occupied, 911 dispatch said, but there was no immediate word on whether anyone was home when the fire broke out. Howard Township firefighters had just arrived about 4:15 a.m. and were working to control the blaze. No injuries were reported as fire crews first arrived.
