A Penn-Harris-Madison spokeswoman sad Thursday that the school district is aware of allegations made against a school resource officer, but they have found no evidence to support the claim. In an e-mail received Thursday, Teresa Carroll said allegations about Lt. Chris DeMeyer inappropriately touching a student were investigated by Mike Seger, Penn High School’s director of safety and student services. "(Seger) interviewed staff members and students who were present at the time of the alleged incident," Carroll wrote, "and their testimony does not support the complaint." The statement comes one day after St. Joseph County Police asked the Indiana State Police to conduct an investigation into the incident. According to Sgt. Bill Redman, a 17-year-old female Penn student filed the complaint on Monday alleging DeMeyer touched her inappropriately during a search for a stolen iPod. Despite the investigation request, Redman said DeMeyer will remain on duty at Penn as the school resource officer.
