Outstanding Student Athlete: Griffyn Carpenter

BOURBON - Triton High School junior Griffyn Carpenter has taken the Northern State Conference by storm this season with his sharpshooting. “Griffyn does something you can’t teach”, Triton coach Jason Groves says of his leading scorer. “He can shoot. He shoots well in transition and you don’t normally see that at the high school level.” “My long ball’s no secret”, Carpenter says with a grin. “It’s what I practice, day in-day out. That’s what will get me to the next level, I hope.” The next level, meaning college basketball, and also, back atop the podium at State. Carpenter was a freshman when the Trojans won the Class-A state title in 2008, and remembers last season’s runner up finish all too well. “I want this team to be remembered as the one that took it even farther! I want to be remembered as the top Triton team, not just the one that followed up a state and state runner-up team.”
