Kosciusko County police arrested a man believed responsible for robbing the Dollar General store and Farmers State Bank Thursday in Mentone — 18 minutes after the first 911 call. Melvin Cormican, 35, of Mentone, was taken into custody at gunpoint after police tracked him to a house in the 300 block of North Broadway Street, near the store and bank. Police say Cormican’s first robbery was at 11:28 a.m. at the Dollar General store, where he robbed the clerk at gunpoint. His next stop, police say, was the bank where he robbed a teller at gunpoint. The Broadway Street homeowner allowed Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officers to search the house, where Cormican was taken into custody at 11:46 a.m. In a news release, Mentone Marshal Jim Eds stated Cormican confessed to the robberies. The FBI is investigating the bank robbery and may pursue federal charges, according to the news release.
