Elkhart firefighter suffers minor injury

ELKHART — A firefighter is recovering after he was injured fighting a house fire Thursday morning. Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in the 2000 block of Prairie Street around 8 a.m., on the city's south side. There heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control. No one was home at the time. Outside, though, one firefighter fell and hurt himself. He went to the hospital with an ankle injury.
