NILES — Troopers from the Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting that left a man in critical condition Sunday morning. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 3100 block of Niles-Buchanan Road in Niles Township at approximately 3:00 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a shooting. Troopers found that a 14-year-old suspect had shot his 64-year-old grandfather while the grandfather was sleeping. Another occupant of the home then called 911 to report the shooting, according to police. Upon arrival, police took the suspect into custody and he was booked into the Berrien County Juvenile Center. The victim is in critical condition at Memorial Hospital.
