Randy Sharkey said Sunday that he’s recovering from injuries he sustained last week because of a helicopter accident near Goshen. Sharkey, manager of the Goshen Air Center in Elkhart County, confirmed that he was involved in the crash near the center, but told SBT24/7 News that his injuries were minor. The accident happened Thursday, according to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration. One other person was listed as being aboard the Enstrom 280FX Rotorcraft when it went down, but no one was seriously injured, Sharkey said. Because the accident remains under investigation, Sharkey declined to comment further. The helicopter autorotated into a nearby field, the FAA report said. It’s a type of landing that typically follows a helicopter’s engine failure, according to information from the agency.
