NILES — A Buchanan grandfather has died after being shot early Sunday by his 14-year-old grandson, who now faces felony murder charges, according to troopers from the Michigan State Police. Officers at the Niles post tell WSBT News that the 64-year-old grandfather died about 2 p.m. His name has not been released. Police were dispatched to a residence in the 3100 block of Niles-Buchanan Road at approximately 3:00 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a shooting. Troopers found that the teen suspect had shot the grandfather as he was sleeping. Another occupant of the home then called 911 to report the shooting, according to police. Upon arrival, police took the suspect into custody and he was booked into the Berrien County Juvenile Center. The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital and later died.
