Dowagiac man airlifted to hospital after accident

POKAGON — A 75-year-old Dowagiac man was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend Tuesday night after he reportedly struck a tractor trailer that was backing into a private driveway. Lester Skibbe was driving west on Michigan 62 near Pokagon Street about 7 p.m. when he struck the truck driven by 37-year-old Edward Kiggins, of Dowagiac. He was listed in serious condition Wednesday morning. Kiggins was not injured. The traffic crash remains under investigation, although alcohol, speed and seat belts do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.
