A NIPSCO crew was at the scene of a gas leak Tuesday afternoon in a home in the 2400 block of North Home Street, north of McKinley Avenue in Mishawaka, a spokesman told WSBT-TV. Michael Charbonneau with NIPSCO said a contractor not associated with NIPSCO hit the gas main, apparently as phone cable was being laid. He said gas was shut off to two customers, but no one was hurt although some nearby businesses were evacuated. Home Street was closed north of McKinley for hours, but utility crews had left the scene by 10:30 p.m.
