A Jimtown High School junior died in an accident Thursday morning east of Osceola along Old U.S. 33, just east of the St. Joseph County line. The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said in a news release that Tyler Lamb was attempting to turn east, or left, from southbound County Road 3 onto Old U.S. 33 about 6:40 a.m. when his car was struck by a westbound dump truck. He died at the scene. A school bus might have blocked Lamb’s view of the dump truck, police say. "Currently, the Jimtown High School crisis team has gathered a number of local clergy, and counselors to the Jimtown High School library to help support our students, staff and friends through this difficult loss," said Jimtown High School Principal Nathan Dean. A westbound school bus on Old U.S. 33 was attempting to turn north onto County Road 3 at the time the accident occurred. The dump truck was traveling behind the bus. The driver of the truck, Anthony L. Krieger, was not injured but was taken to Elkhart General Hospital as a precaution in accordance with his company’s policy. Earlier Thursday, traffic had been blocked in both directions on Old U.S. 33, but all lanes are now open this afternoon.
