Goshen woman arrested for police impersonator story

The woman who allegedly fabricated a story about being raped by a police impersonator was arrested Thursday by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department on preliminary charges of of false informing, a Class B misdemeanor. Goshen resident Jamie Y. Skaggs, 35, told police that on March 23, while driving in Elkhart's northeast side, she was raped after being pulled over by someone who identified themselves as police, according to a sheriff's department news release. Police were initially convinced by Skaggs' story, but say detectives conducting interviews and investigating phone records later realized the claim was false. Skaggs is being held at Elkhart County corrections facility. Bond has been set at $1,500.
