A young boy was airlifted to an area hospital after being struck by a pickup truck on County Road 39 in Elkhart County, about four miles south of Middlebury. Authorities say 9-year-old Jalyn Miller walked into the road about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday and was struck by the truck, driven by 28-year-old Jeffrey Fought of Shipshewana. Jalyn was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of serious injuries, the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said in a press release. He remained in critical condition Thursday morning, hospital staff said. The accident remains under investigation.
