Indiana 23 to close at Granger rail crossing

April 08, 2010|Tribune Staff Report

A thoroughfare that carries more than 26,000 vehicles a day through Granger is scheduled to close April 19, the Indiana Department of Transportation reported. Indiana 23 will be closed to traffic from April 19 to 30 at the Canadian National Railroad crossing. The closure will allow the rail company to reconstruct the crossing as part of a project to widen Indiana 23 between Adams and Bittersweet roads. InDOT will install drainage structures during the closure. Indiana 23 will continue to be accessible on either side of the railroad tracks. Access to all businesses within the area will also be maintained during construction. Through traffic will be detoured via a marked, five-mile route along Indiana 331 (Capital Avenue), Cleveland Road and Bittersweet Road.
