Benton Harbor police made an arrest at 11:45 p.m. Friday following the shooting of a 4-year-old girl in Benton Harbor Friday afternoon. Police arrested Darnell Williams, 34, of Benton Harbor. Benton Harbor Police Chief Roger Lange said that shortly after WSBT-TV’s story about the shooting ran on the 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts, his department was inundated with calls that ultimately led police to the suspect. The girl was hit in the chest by a stray bullet while playing in her dad's front yard in the 700 block of Lavette Avenue. According to Lange, she underwent surgery a Kalamazoo hospital and is in critical condition. Williams is facing charges including two counts of attempted murder, two felony firearm counts and two counts of being in possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Williams will be arraigned on Monday. Police say there had been a dispute between the shooter and another person about a month ago. Lange said police have been told that the shooter and the young victim are related.
