DUI checkpoint planned Friday west of Elkhart

ELKHART — Officers with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department will participate in a DUI checkpoint Friday evening. Officers from local law enforcement agencies will be staged at a location west of Elkhart, and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol will be arrested and prosecuted. The checkpoint also serves as a way to educate the public by drawing attention to the dangers and penalties associated with poor driving habits, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.
