A 43-year-old motorcyclist died from head injuries after he crashed his cycle on State Road 15 during a police chase late Friday night.
Around 11:35 p.m., an Elkhart County patrolman saw a 2001 Harley-Davidson travelnig 53 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone on the north side of Goshen, according to news release details issued by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department. As the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the motorcyclist picked up speed.
The fatal crash happened several minutes later on a recently improved section of road, just north of U.S. 20. During the road upgrade, changes were made to both grade and curves, police said.
Police identified the motorcyclist as David D. Untiedt.
The sheriff's department is continuing its investigation.
