NEW CARLISLE — An autopsy conducted today showed that man who died in a mobile home fire on Friday died of smoke and soot inhalation.
Deputy coroner Randy Magdalinski identified 62-year-old Robert "Tony" Neitzel as victim of the fire that started about 2:45 p.m. Friday at a mobile home park along U.S. 20 on the east side of New Carlisle.
Neighbors described Neitzel as quiet and said he had lived in the mobile home for at least nine years. They said he was disabled after having a stroke in his 30s.
A neighbor spotted the smoke and heard Neitzel inside the apartment, but was unable to reach him before flames overtook the home.
