Operation Honor receives outpouring of support

November 11, 2010|By ABBY WEPPLER, WSBT-TV Reporter

MISHAWAKA - Local service men and service women overseas will be receiving care packages stuffed with all kinds of goodies thanks to the overwhelming support from the community.

The WSBT family and South Bend Rotary teamed up for a one-day donation drive to help collect items to ship overseas to our military personnel.

From non-perishable food items, to batteries, and even hand and foot warmers, dozens of boxes were filled to capacity throughout the day.

The South Bend Rotary plans to ship the boxes before Thanksgiving, so those fighting overseas will have a taste of home during the holiday season.

The goal was to fill 100 boxes, but the donation drive brought in well over that amount.

Rotary officials say they plan to team up with Blue Star Moms to ship out more care packages with the extra items they received Thursday.
