For the past century, Whirlpool Corporation has called Benton Harbor, Michigan home. Thursday, the company broke ground on the site for their brand new office complex -- building on their commitment to the struggling community.
"And I would just say, we are proud to not only be in, but also to invest in this community. So thank you for being here to celebrate this really important day for us," Whirlpool Chairman and CEO, Jeff Fettig, told the dozens of people who gathered to watch the historic event.
Whirlpool's massive office campus will house about a third of their 4,000 local employees. The company will be consolidating some of its facilities in the area and ultimately using just three campuses including the new office campus which will be built at the corner of Main and Riverview Drive. The other two are the Benton Harbor Administrative Center and the St. Joseph Technology Center. The whole project is expected to take about five years to complete.
