GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) — A former commander of the Indiana State Police Toll Road post made no plea during his initial court appearance on charges he stole more than $90,000 in state money.
Dallard Tackett of Nappanee was in an Elkhart County court Monday to face charges of theft, forgery and official misconduct. The Goshen News reports that a judge set a Dec. 13 hearing on Tackett's request that his $100,000 bond be reduced.
The 59-year-old Tackett is accused of stealing the money for his own use during a three-year period. He resigned in August after being questioned about money that was supposed to be sent to Indianapolis.
The office of defense attorney Sara Seibert told The Associated Press she would have no comment. Tackett was being held Monday in the county jail.
