NOTRE DAME - Members of the Notre Dame football team took a break from their Sun Bowl preparations Thursday night to spread some Christmas cheer.

Student athletes from nearly all of Notre Dame's 24 varsity teams hosted the annual "Fighting Irish Fight for Life" Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Christmas party at the Joyce Center.

Patients from Memorial Hospital's pediatric cancer center were invited for a night of fun, games and gifts.

Braxton Cave, Kyle Rudolph, Michael Floyd, Ethan Johnson and Manti Te'o were among the Irish football players to attend the event.

"You think about what they've been through, and you think about what you've been through and it doesn't compare," Teo said.  "It's always nice to be around the kids."

Becca Bruszewski of the women's basketball team agreed.  "The best part about it is getting to see the kids."
