December 11, 2010|By Clifton French (cfrench@wsbt.com)

SOUTH BEND — Police are searching for three men who they say broke into a blind 92-year-old South Bend man's home Saturday afternoon, holding him down while they went through his belongings.

The man wished to stay anonymous, stating that he was scared something else might happen.

It was around 12:30p.m. when a group of men attacked the victim in his home on the west side of South Bend.  He said the three men came into his house, held him down in a chair while they went through his things and then, ran out the back door.

A trail of footprints were left in the snow from the fleeing criminals.

Almost completely blind, the victim said he thought the first attacker was his grandson coming over for a visit.  When he felt the man wrap is arms around him, he thought he was getting a hug.

"I thought my grandson was just messing around," the victim said, "Then his arms came up and I started to choke."

When the victim realized what was happening, he says he began to yell.  That's when the attacker covered his face with his hand to muffle the screams.  The victim did receive a few scratches to his nose, but was otherwise, unhurt.

Police say ultimately nothing was taken from the home, but the victim says he still has to have a family member go through everything thoroughly because he wouldn't be able to see if a few items were missing.
