A single-vehicle accident Monday morning critically injured Wawasee High School student Allison Angel.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Fatal Alcohol Crash Team news release indicated Angel, 17, of Syracuse, was driving north on County Road 500 East, just south of County Road 1000 North in Kosciusko County , about 11:15 a.m.

Angel crested a hill and then swerved as a southbound vehicle drove past her. Police believe Angel overcorrected her vehicle, which caused her to go off the road and strike a utility pole.

She was airlifted to Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, where she’s listed in critical condition.

Angel was wearing a seat belt, police said.
