UPDATE: Downtown Mishawaka loses power in planned outage

As many as 2500 to 3000 Mishawaka Utility customersin downtown lost power for about half an hour Tuesday in a planned outage.

The manager of Mishawaka Utilities told WSBT the purpose of this outage was to fix a problem that caused last Friday’s outage.

The utility notified all of its major customers ahead of time. Police were called in to direct traffic at busy intersections.  

Friday's two-hour outage was caused by a transformer malfunction at the utility's 4th Street substation.  



 

Part of downtown Mishawaka is without power in an outage similar to one that occurred Friday.

 

Police are directing traffic at busy intersections. It is unknown at this time how long the outage is expected to last.

An employee at Mishawaka Utilities told WSBT that it might have something to do with work on their 4th Street substation. On Friday the two-hour outage was caused by a transformer malfunction at the substation.
