Payless ShoeSource in Niles Township robbed at gunpoint

A Payless ShoeSource in Niles Township was robbed at gunpoint Thursday evening, police said.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. Thursday when a white male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, walked into the store wearing a mask, a blue sweatshirt, old blue jeans and tan boots, according to a press release from the Berrien County Sheriff's Department.

The man was last seen running from the store, which is located in the 2700 block of S. 11th St, and the sheriff's department's K-9 unit tracked the thief to the intersection of Third Street and Bertrand Road, police said. The suspect may have left a car in this area for his escape, police said.

No one was injured in the robbery and police are not releasing the amount of money that was stolen.
