THREE OAKS -- Police say a Niles man and his daughter were arrested Saturday after a fight broke out between the two in New Buffalo Township.

Police say officers were dispatched to the Three Oaks Speedway for a felonious assault in a van. Witnesses told police that they saw a van pulled over on U.S. 12 between Hoder and Lakeside Roads.

Witnesses told police that a male, later identified as 50-year-old Dewayne Rowe, got out of the passenger side of the van and pulled the van’s driver, who is his daughter, 33-year-old Deanna Norris out of the vehicle.

The two began to argue and fell to the ground. The van, which was not put into park, began to roll and ran over Norris’ legs. The two got back into the van and Rowe drove east on U.S. 12 then pulled into the Three Oaks Speedway gas station.

An officer met with the pair and saw Norris was injured. An officer detained Rowe for questioning and placed him in the back of a Three Oaks Police Department squad car.

Norris got back into the van and then pulled forward, ramming the police car with her father in the back seat.

There were no injuries as a result of that collision. Norris was then detained until backup arrived. Officers struggled to get Norris unto custody and she was then placed in a separate police car.

Norris then kicked the back window out of the patrol vehicle. While officers attempted to remove Norris from this police car, she kicked several officers assisting at the scene.

Both Rowe and Norris were taken to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for evaluation. They were both later lodged at the Berrien County Jail. Police say alcohol appears to be a main factor in this incident.

Rowe was charged with operating while intoxicated and assault with a deadly weapon. Norris was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of damage to police property, operating while intoxicated, resisting arrest and assault and battery.
