Unseasonably warm temperatures attract park-goers

December 31, 2010

GOSHEN -- For a few hours this morning, you could close your eyes and swear it was spring. Temperatures were in the mid to high 40's, and the sun even peaked out for a while. We traveled to Goshen to see how people were taking advantage of the warm-up.

Foot traffic was a little bit busier than usual near the Millrace and nearby Shanklin Park for this time of year. Many took advantage of the unusually higher temperatures for some exercise and fresh air.

“I remember a year when it was around 70 in December,” said Ann Bridger, who was out for a walk. “But that’s been a long, long time, so this is a great treat to have.”

“It’s nice to be able to get out on New Year’s Eve and be able to walk on the Mill Race, we do that quite often but usually this time of year, it’s a lot colder,” said Kenton Miller. “So it’s nice to be out here in the warm weather.”

“It’s a beautiful day to be out walking, especially the last day of 2010, it’s just a great experience to be out here on t he last day,” said Kimberly Litchty- Nyce.

Isaac Horne brought his son to play at the park.

“It’s a real change, like the past two or three weeks, nothing but frigidly cold, now it’s kind of warm so I am trying to get him out here before it gets cold again,” said Horne.

All of those we spoke with know this is only going to be a short-term gift, if you will, from Mother Nature, and a day from now it will be business as usual.
