Daniels: Speech isn't a sign of White House bid

January 06, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels says his speech next month at a conservative conference in Washington, D.C., shouldn't be interpreted as a sign that he's going to run for president.

The Republican governor says a friend who organizes the Conservative Political Action Conference has asked him for several years to speak and he finally accepted the offer. He says he views the event as a chance to contribute his thoughts about the nation's situation and to discuss how people there can help lead America out of its current trouble.

Other potential Republican presidential candidates have also been invited to speak at the conference.

Daniels has said he won't announce a decision on possible plans for a White House bid until after the Indiana legislature wraps up in April.
