AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A pregnant baby sitter charged in Ohio with killing a 23-month-old toddler has requested maternity leave from jail.
Twenty-year-old Tiffani Calise, who is eight months pregnant, has been held at the county jail in Akron since August. She has pleaded not guilty.
Her lawyers requested the maternity release last week. The judge's decision is pending.
The woman has been charged in a toddler's death blamed on blows to the head. The Akron Beacon Journal reports Calise has said she left the baby briefly in a nearly empty bathtub to get a towel.
