February 22, 2011|WSBT-TV Report

GOSHEN — A Goshen woman told police she dropped her cell phone while driving early Tuesday morning. As she tried to pick it up, she drove across the center line of S.R. 15, north of C.R. 23, and struck two oncoming vehicles at 4:35 a.m., police said.

An Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department news release noted the woman, Heather Esders, 29, was cited for driving in conditions that required slower speed. She was taken to Goshen General Hospital for treatment of head pain.

One of the oncoming drivers, Manuel Arrieta, 44, of Goshen, also was taken to Goshen General. Police cited Arrieta for driving without insurance.

The second oncoming driver, Denise Brown, 37, was not injured, according to police.
