Dog shot in Mishawaka

February 28, 2011|Tribune Staff Report

MISHAWAKA — Police are investigating an incident Sunday in which a dog was shot outside a home on East Lawrence Street.

Responding to the sound of a yelp, the owner told police she discovered the white cavachon bleeding from the chest in the backyard about 7:15 p.m.

At the recommendation of police, she took the dog to the Animal Emergency Clinic, where an examination revealed a bullet lodged in its chest.

The owner reportedly declined to have the bullet surgically removed from the dog,  citing vet instructions that it would be more detrimental to the dog to remove it. The dog's condition is not known.

She told police she believes a neighbor with whom she had had past confrontations shot the dog.

No suspects have been arrested.
