GOP starts radio ads over Indiana Democrats walkout

February 28, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republicans are trying to turn up the political heat over Indiana House Democrats leaving the state with radio ads ridiculing the move.

One of the radio ads paid for by Gov. Mitch Daniels' Aiming Higher political committee features a song saying "won't you come home Pat Bauer?" in reference to the House Democratic leader.

State Republican Party spokesman Pete Seat says the radio ads began running statewide Monday, but he wouldn't say how much is being spent on them. He says the campaign was aimed at making sure the public knows that legislation on public education and other changes is being threatened by the walkout that started last Tuesday.

The Indiana Democratic Party has been soliciting donations to help pay the bills for legislators staying in Urbana, Ill.
