UPDATE: Power restored to Elkhart County after transformer fire

Hundreds of people in Elkhart County were without power early Saturday morning for several hours, thanks to a power line fire on County Road 6 near County Road 17, at the Pheasant Ridge neighborhood.

Witnesses at the scene told a WSBT reporter a transformer was on fire and was catching nearby tree branches on fire also.

According to the I & M website, 803 people were without power at 3:30 a.m. 

An Elkhart County dispatcher said the call came in at 3:10 a.m. and firefighters were on scene trying to put out the blaze.

By late Saturday morning, all customers again had electric service.
