More than 80 area food pantries will receive non-perishable food items gleaned from Saturday’s “Scouting For Food” day.

“Scouting For Food” is the LaSalle Council Boy Scouts’ annual food drive in Michiana.

Scouts are collaborating again this year with Kroger, which provides bags, advertising and pre-bagged groceries. In Elkhart County, scouts are being helped by BIMBO Bakeries.

Scouts are distributing collection bags in residential areas and will return on Saturday to pick up donations. Also, here’s where you can donate non-perishable food items Saturday:

  • South Bend: LaSalle Council Service Center, 1340 South Bend Ave.
  • Elkhart: BIMBO Food Bakeries, 53075 Frederic Drive, (off C.R. 6, east of C.R. 113)
  • LaPorte and Starke counties: Salvation Army locations (year round)
In 2010, scouts collected more than 98,000 food items during “Scouting For Food.”
