LaPORTE — A woman in rural LaPorte called 911 Tuesday afternoon, saying she was being physically abused by her husband again, who was armed with a handgun.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office deputies arriving at the home, in the 4000 block of West Pine Ridge Drive, were told the husband had fired a shot. Police quickly found the woman in the house and then her husband in an attached garage.
A sheriff’s office news release indicates the man apparently shot himself in the chest. He was taken to Indiana University LaPorte Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Police did not release his condition.
The woman was also treated at the hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening, police said. The woman told police she had been the victim of ongoing physical abuse.
