Kristi Rhodes, former bookkeeper at North Webster Community Public Library, is named as a defendant in a suit filed in Kosciusko County Superior Court.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller filed suit to recover more than $28,000 in public money that was either embezzled or mishandled by Rhodes, according to a news release from Zoeller.
Indiana State Board of Accounts examiners found during an audit, unauthorized checks totaling more than $16,000 were issued to Rhodes between December 2008 and September 2010. The audit also revealed Rhodes caused the library to incur late penalties and interest for failing to submit payroll takes and other bills.
The audit holds Rhodes responsible for $1,585.10 in penalties and interest to the Indiana Department of Revenue, $8,791.69 to the Internal Revenue Service and $1,032.05 to Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
