A driver’s license and other items stolen from a 92-year-old Paw Paw woman were found as police arrested a 35-year-old Watervliet woman and 44-year-old Kalamazoo man on drug charges Friday afternoon, the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department reports in a press release Saturday.
The arrests were on County Road 687 near Interstate 94, near Hartford.
About 2:40 p.m. Friday, deputies made traffic stop on a vehicle for a moving traffic violation.
Upon stopping the car, deputies found an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. Police said the female driver was showing signs of impairment and admitted to smoking crack earlier in the day. The neither the driver nor passenger is named in the press release.
The passenger was discovered to be on parole, and deputies found concealed in his shoe a 92-year-old Paw Paw woman’s driver’s license, Social Security card and credit cards. Upon further checking the vehicle, the elderly Paw Paw woman’s wallet and other credit cards were located. The wallet had been reported to the Paw Paw Police Department as stolen earlier in the day as the elderly woman was shopping at Family Fare grocery store.
