Police seek damaged truck in hit-and-run that seriously injured Elkhart man

An Elkhart man is in serious condition after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning, according to a nursing supervisor at Elkhart General Hospital.

James E. Armour Jr. has since been transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department reported in a press release Saturday.

Armour was crossing State Road 19 near the Lakeshore Grill in Elkhart County just south of North Shore Drive when a vehicle struck him about 1:37 a.m.

Armour had cuts to the face and several internal injuries, police said.

Elkhart County Sheriff's Department officers are investigating the incident for possible charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, police said. Officers are looking for a small, black pickup truck with front-end damage, including a broken headlight.

Anyone who has information concerning the hit-and-run, the suspect pickup truck or any other vehicle that might have been involved in the incident is asked to contact the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department. On weekends, call the Dispatch Center at 574-533-4151, and on weekdays, call 574-891-2100.
