INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Police is investigating a pair of former Capitol Police officers on allegations they "intruded" upon personal items belonging to Gov. Mitch Daniels.
The officers were assigned to protect the governor's mansion and have since resigned.
State police First Sgt. Dave Bursten tells The Indianapolis Star detectives opened a formal investigation on Tuesday that could lead to criminal charges.
Bursten didn't elaborate on the allegations and wouldn't identify the officers, whom he says are suspects in a criminal investigation.
Once the probe is complete, Bursten says evidence will be presented to the Marion County prosecutor.
The Capitol Police is a division of the state police.
