A helicopter was sent to land in Elkhart Central High School's soccer field in order to transport a 15-year-old boy injured in a fire Thursday night to the hospital.
A WSBT reporter at the scene said two people driving by spotted the boy on fire along the side of the road in the 1200 block of Rice Street. They put out the flames and called 911.
A friend of the family told WSBT the boy is autistic.
There is no official word at this time on the extent of the boy's injuries. The two who rescued him told WSBT a large portion of his body was badly burned and his skin was peeling off.
A home at that location was also on fire. Firefighters were called to put out the flames.
