Michigan police seek man in Easter Sunday church theft

April 25, 2011

WYANDOTTE, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a man walked into a Detroit-area church on Easter and swiped a bag likely holding thousands of dollars that was collected by the church.

WXYZ-TV and WWJ-AM report the theft took place on Sunday at Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Wyandotte.

Authorities say the man walked into the church and asked to speak with the priest before walking through a back hallway, taking the money bag and leaving.

Police say they're on the lookout for anyone trying to cash checks made out to the church or cash. And they plan to release a sketch of the man.
