More cocaine found after police pop trunk of Rolls Royce

May 06, 2011|WSBT-TV Report

After Indiana State Police pulled over a car transport trailer about a week ago, they made an interesting discovery – kilos of cocaine hidden in one of the luxury cars on the transport. Now, police say they have found more.

Trooper Mick Dockery and his K-9 partner Hondo found 29 kilos of cocaine hidden in a 2007 Mercedes Benz S550 – the car valued at $100,000 and the cocaine valued at about $1,000,000– after stopping the transport near the Elkhart exit of the Indiana Toll Road.

Officers were not able to access the trunk of a 2008 Rolls Royce Phantom – valued at $300,000 – which was also on the transport. They didn’t have a key, and a Rolls Royce dealership told them trying to force it open would cause thousands of dollars in damage to the car. They had to wait for a key to be made in the United Kingdom and shipped to them.

On Thursday, Indiana State Police along with the Elkhart County ICE Unit were finally able to open the trunk. They found an additional 11 kilos of cocaine in a suitcase.

That makes 40 kilos in all – worth an estimated $1.2 million, according to police.

The transport driver, Patrick B. Austin, 46, of Alta Loma, California, was arrested for dealing cocaine.
